In this Foundation Member Series, we’re introducing you to some of the very first women to walk through our virtual doors and discovering what the last year in business and their first year as an FG member has looked like for them. Meet Annika Launay, she specialises in the areas of retail, hospitality, FMCG and tourism and has a passion and flair for helping businesses achieve (and surpass) their communication goals.
Annika Launay is a freelance PR Director, co-owner, and Managing Director of PDPR marketing and creative from Brisbane. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the team spanning over 15 years in the industries such as retail, hospitality, FMCG, and tourism. Annika holds two bachelor’s degrees in Science (Psychology and Human Movement Science) and Business Management (International Business) from the University of Queensland. She is also a title holder of First Class honours in Business Management in Marketing. Annika had experience in School Council and became a Foundation Director in St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School.
What led you to join Freelancing Gems?
As well as the community, networking and support aspects, the platform provided a great avenue to promote the business and be able to pitch for additional work. What has being part of Freelancing Gems brought to your life? Is job opportunities business community learning opportunities business support remote work flexibility connections with other professionals?
The business community and learning opportunities have been advantageous, as well as the connections with other like-minded professionals.
How have those things impacted your life family business?
We are now working with an incredible business development executive found through the FG network. Having her industry experience and knowledge has been invaluable for the business.
What sort of roles are you interested in? Ie freelance consulting projects part-time remote.
PDPR predominantly works on consulting projects both short and long-term. Our clients are based all over Australia so remote work has always been a large part of our business.
What are you seeking at this stage in your career? Ie flexibility redefining your 9 to 5 great job opportunities to demonstrate what you bring to the table the chance to level up connections with great professionals.
The flexibility and freedom of owning my own business is incredibly important to me. PDPR gives me the opportunity to work with incredible brands that inspire and excite, as well as the ability to choose clients and projects across multiple industries and locations.
What is one word you would use to describe FG?
What would you say to another woman thinking about joining?
Regardless of what stage you are in business (freelance, start-up, established), the FG community provides an excellent platform to network, meet like-minded individuals, learn and grow your personal and business potential.
