In this Foundation Member Series, we’re introducing you to some of the very first women to walk through our virtual doors and discovering what the last year in business and their first year as an FG member has looked like for them. Meet Mehtap Ozdemirci, she specialises in business coaching and human resources.

Mehtap is an HR Consultant and a Business Strategist from Brisbane. She loves working with people and is very passionate about helping small business owners gaining access to big business people and cultural thinking.

What led you to join Freelancing Gems?

I started freelancing in 2018, so when FG started in 2020, I was so excited to be a part of it.

I liked the idea of supporting an Australian based freelancing focused business. That it was female focused was a bonus!

What has being part of Freelancing Gems brought to your life?

It’s allowed me to continue my step into freelancing and maintain remote work. I’ve connected with employers through the platform who are now clients, I’ve made connections with other gems that complement my own service offering. I’ve established a community of women who I feel supported by.

How have those things impacted your life, family, business?

The flexibility it has given me has meant that I’ve been able to spend more time with my family. My two nieces were born since I started freelancing, so in a way, FG has allowed me to spend more time with them!

What sort of roles are you interested in?

Always looking for freelance opportunities both consulting and projects.

What are you seeking at this stage in your career?

Flexibility, connections with other great professionals and supporting others who are just starting out.

Has being part of Freelancing Gems made you think about how you charge? And have you given yourself a pay rise?

Yes. It’s given me the confidence to charge what I’m worth and not undervalue myself. When I started I was so nervous about charging, not sure if clients would see the value. I’ve definitely given myself a pay rise!

What is one word you would use to describe FG?

Community

Purple is a close second!

What would you say to another woman thinking about joining?

Don’t hesitate! It gives you support, insights and confidence!
