Meet Codie, a digital marketer with a passion to be bold, creative and innovative while providing high quality services to sustainable business superheroes. We caught up with Codie to talk all things freelancing!

When and why did you ditch the 9-5 and go out on your own?

After being heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, I was given a wonderful opportunity to help out a friend doing some freelance work and I couldn’t believe how fun it was! I enjoyed meeting new people, creating things from scratch and the flexibility was unlike anything I’d experienced. From there, I surrounded myself with some amazing business superwomen for support and started my freelance gig. I’ve never looked back and continue to learn and grow each day.

What’s the best piece of advice you’d give to someone who is waiting to take the leap to work for themselves?

Don’t wait for the right time, opportunity or for perfection, you’ve just got to take the leap and give it a crack. Also, surround yourself with a community who you can call on for help or support. I wouldn’t be here without those women.

Best tips for winning new business?

Be different! A lot of people try to fit their client into a package, I fit myself into the client’s package instead. I listen to what they need and give them a personalised business solution to that.

What has been your favourite client/project you’ve done to date?

There’s so many! I did a social rebrand that was really exciting and pushed me out of my comfort zone.

What is a business win you’re currently celebrating?

I am now working full-time in my business! It’s such an empowering feeling when you can say that you are the honey makin’ the money from your own business and I have Freelancing Gems to thank for that.
