The Idea Shed are on the hunt for passionate Creative Strategist with an exceptionally juicy mind to join our fast-growing team of talented creative thinkers, doers, and great people. The Creative Strategist will help lead our brands and provide strategic insight to help develop creative ideas that drive genuine connections with our audiences, while unlocking growth for our clients.
This is a fulltime, onsite short term contract for approx one month 9 Jan – 9 Feb 2023, with extension potential. Located in Crows Nest, Sydney.
Our client list is a beauty, giving you the opportunity to work with companies such as Carlton United Breweries, Pernod Ricard, Impossible Foods, Kennedy, Nestle, TAB, NSW Govt, Coca-Cola, Newscorp, GWA, Kimberley Clark, VW and Unilever.
The Role:
Reporting to the Head of Creative Experience, the role of the Creative Strategist will be to sharpen the quality and strategic nature of our creative responses. This person will be responsible for championing industry leading strategic thinking that sets our brilliant creative ideas apart.
The role of Creative Strategist is exciting, varied and constantly evolving.
This person will be expected to:
- Overall, you will support client teams and creatives across the business to develop strategies and ideas that answer our clients briefs, providing solutions fromShelf to Street to Screen.
- You’ll be comfortable bringing creativity and commerce together to provide an end to end solution with a commercial focus to our clients.
- Dissect client briefs and data, over laying cultural, customer, competitive and category insights, to identify key communications opportunities.
- Develop the strategic frameworks and creative territories to best take advantage of the opportunities.
- Be innovative in your approach: market-leading innovation in brand, digital, social and shopper strategy that our clients couldn’t get anywhere else.
- Write and communicate engaging and crystal-clear creative briefs to help our creative teams deliver ideas that support business challenges.
- Feedback on and develop creative ideas in a constructive and positive manner – motivating the teams around them.
- Work with senior clients and consult on key strategic projects.
- Participate in new business pitches.
- On occasion, contribute to thought leadership written pieces on industry trends for owned social media and PR purposes.
- Serve as a thought leader across the business on topics of planning and strategy alongside our Head of Creative Experience.
- Work with multiple clients’ teams on projects while collaborating with multiple partners.
- Work alongside The Head of Content at our content agency Chronicle Studios on content and production projects as needed (content strategy)
- A high standard of presenting and exceptional attention to detail with strong grammar and writing skills.
- Champion a positive and optimistic creative culture.

Ideal Applicant or Experience
Desired Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in marketing / advertising role with strategic focus
- You have a genuine passion for helping brands grow, with a proven track record in delivering brand-led strategic thinking across all channels, with demonstrated experience in shopper and social strategy.
- You are a culturally curious creature, you develop your own unique and informed perspectives, and have an inherent passion for understanding consumer behaviours and their motivations.
- FMCG experience along with retail, government, and service industry experience are advantageous.
- An understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods and able to run research projects autonomously.
- You are a natural storyteller and able to bring your strategic thinking to life on the screen and the stage.
- You can build, implement and measure your strategies against a measurement framework and client objectives
- Quality and timely execution of tasks is paramount
- Reasonable knowledge of the creative production process and able to make recommendations in line with realistic budgets.
- Knowledge of process and disciplines within a creative agency environment
- Can-do attitude with a career focused nature
- Works well under pressure.
