Tell us a little about yourself and your business?

I’m mumma bear to my two little cubs; my son just turned 5 and my daughter is 3. They’re the reason I’m here today! My partner and I moved back to my home town 4 years ago after having our son, then we had baby #2, then it was time to think about getting back to work! I lived in Queenstown, NZ for 16 years and for most of that time worked in the wedding & events industry, which I loved. I knew I didn’t want to go back into working late nights & weekends with a young family though. I still love weddings & events and I’m very fortunate to work with businesses in this industry still! In my VA business, I help creative female entrepreneurs get back to doing what they love, offering Pinterest management, socials & admin support. I let you jump off that content hamster wheel and I take the reins!

What inspired you to make the leap and go out on your own, and when did you first start working for yourself?

After a certain major event turned my “back to work” plans upside down (plus our wedding plans, don’t get me started!), I had to get creative on how I could help support our family, whilst also having the flexibility to work around my kids. After some serious Google searching, I came across the online world of freelancing VA’s! I completed Karen Vivarelli’s Business Kickstarter Course at the end of 2020, then launched my business officially in February 2021.

Tell us about your experience of working for yourself?

This is the first time I’ve worked for myself, and it’s certainly been a learning experience! There have been some ups & downs, but there’s always something to learn from every opportunity which ultimately helps you grow. I’ve had to push out of my comfort zone to “sell myself” and market my business in different ways than I’m used to when applying for a job. I am really enjoying it though! It has given me such flexibility with my kids; I get to choose what I want to do, when to work and no two days are the same! The community of like-minded women I’ve met is truly incredible and I’m so fortunate to be a part of it!

What’s your best piece of advice for someone wanting to make the leap?

Just do it! You’ll never feel totally “ready”, but just take the leap, get started and see where it takes you! Have the confidence that there are clients out there that want & need your services. The online world has changed and grown so much in the past couple of years, it’s the place to be!

Best tips for winning new business?

Just be yourself! When I’m on a discovery call with a potential new client, I’ve found the ones I’ve connected with and just been myself and let my natural personality shine through, I’ve got across the line before the end of the call!

What has been your favourite project to date?

Ooh that’s a tough one! Pinterest management is my signature service, so I truly thrive with these clients as it’s where my passion lies. But my first ever client has been a true inspiration to me, I’ve watched her grow her business in the time we’ve worked together which has been amazing and we’ve both learnt a lot from each other!

What is a business win you’re currently celebrating?

I’ve recently signed a few new Pinterest management clients, and that’s the service I’m most passionate about so I’m thrilled to be building up my portfolio of Pinterest clients.

What led you to join Freelancing Gems?

I’m always looking to expand my network and meet like-minded women, and grow my client base. Freelancing Gems was recommended to me by a friend and I could see it was a wonderful community of women that I was super keen to be a part of.

What is one word you would use to describe Freelancing Gems?

Community

What’s next for your business?

To keep growing! And to keep learning… I’m learning more about Pinterest management so that I can offer my clients the most current strategies for the platform, and I’ve also joined an email marketing course, again so I can learn more about this and offer this service to my clients. I’m also close to starting my own team which is very exciting for me!
