Tell us a little about yourself and your business.

I’m a Graphic Designer with over 20 years of experience in the industry working across a variety of corporate categories representing globally renowned blue-chip brands within the beauty, finance, software, FMCG and retail sectors. I have a love for all things Social Media and believe Social Media management will be a leading job role of the future.

What inspired you to make the leap and go out on your own, and when did you first start working for yourself?

I started freelancing with a small Real Estate client back in 2016 after I gave birth to my first child, but along the way, I had always been facilitating freelance jobs aside from my full-time work commitments. I found it incredibly rewarding on a personal level.

Tell us about your experience of working for yourself.

I have learnt to offer exceptional standards of clarification when taking on a new client and discussing their requirements in an attempt to best manage their expectations as effectively as possible.

What’s your best piece of advice for someone wanting to make the leap?

Be clear about your goals and your industry niche – a great website also helps!

Best tips for winning new business?

Being organised with fluid onboarding as to the client’s tasking requirements, gaining access to files efficiently and having your rate-card costs for all elements of the job clearly marked out.

What has been your favourite project to date?

Working with Masterton Homes to help design several premium quality brochures and accompanying digital assets.

What is a business win you’re currently celebrating?

Working with an interior designer enhancing/driving her social posts, levelling them up and her winning and onboarding more business accordingly.

Awareness following discussions with other Freelancers.

What is one word you would use to describe Freelancing Gems?

Uplifting

What’s next for your business?

At the moment I have the capacity to take on a new client covering up to 4 hours per week but should the right type of opportunity present itself I can consider more in the medium to long term period.
