When and why did you ditch the 9-5 and go out on your own?

About 2 months ago after a 4 year stint in agency, I decided to go out on my own as a freelancer. I had learned SO much from working with some epic talent, so felt it was time to put that all to use and become my own boss.

What’s the best piece of advice you’d give to someone who is waiting to take the leap to work for themselves?

Absolutely go for it, it’s one of the best decisions I ever made! If you aren’t totally satisfied with your job, or are keen to take on new challenges (and trust me, being a freelancer is amazing but there are many challenges!) then go for it. Taking that first step is the most daunting part, but I haven’t second guessed myself since.

Best tips for winning new business?

It’s all about connections. I’m super lucky to have found most of my business through existing relationships, so ensure you lean into your network. Don’t hesitate to send that LinkedIn DM, remember that people love to know how you can make their life easier.

What has been your favourite client/project you’ve done to date?

I’ve been lucky enough to work with national and international brands on epic social media campaigns, but my favourite work currently is assisting with the launch of a small e-comm business. The brand has such beautiful stories to tell, all deep rooted in family heritage so nothing makes me happier than to help amplify them.

What is a business win you’re currently celebrating?

Having started only a few months ago, I am almost at capacity! (And I can thank FG for that) I never thought my business would grow as fast as it did so I’m feeling extremely proud of myself as a young business owner. I’m also feeling really proud of the work I am producing, particularly with an agency background where you can become reliant on teamwork. I feel like I’m thriving!
