Stephanie is a Branding and Web Designer who has been lucky enough to work for brands such as Michael Hill Jeweller, Inner Health Plus, Ethical Nutrients and the Queensland Government. She started her own design agency this year where it builds websites and eCommerce stores for small businesses. Stephanie has advanced skills in adobe tools and can independently create a design concept and execute through to completion in a range of branding and commercial retail projects for both print and digital applications. She also does content planning for appropriate target markets and shoots products or sources imagery.

We were curious to know more about Stephanie and how is it going since she started her own design company seven months ago.

What inspired you to make the leap and go out on your own, and when did you first start working for yourself?

For me, success always felt limited when I was working for someone else. I knew there would be no greater challenge than starting my own business which is what I did in April of this year.

Tell us about your experience of working for yourself?

I’ve learnt more about myself in the last 7 months than I have in a corporate career. The challenges of pure self-motivation have shaped me as a businesswoman.

What’s your best piece of advice for someone wanting to make the leap?

Starting your own business isn’t easy, but going with the grain of what everyone else does isn’t easy either.

Best tips for winning new business?

Be open and honest. If a client trusts you, it makes all other factors of winning business a breeze.

What has been your favourite project to date?

Website design and UX Design for Fire NSW. It was rewarding to be able to make a real difference.

What is a business win you’re currently celebrating?

Presenting as a speaker at the Brisbane Business Hub on how small businesses can achieve website success through SEO.
