An exciting opportunity exists within the Central Australian Women’s Legal Service to join our legal team.
CAWLS is a busy community legal practice with a vibrant and dedicated team committed to providing representation and excellent outcomes for our clients through law reform, legal advice and representation, community legal education and outreach. Many of our clients are women who have experienced or are experiencing Domestic and Family violence.
We now have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Solicitor to join our team in Alice Springs, NT.
An applicant’s gender is a genuine occupational requirement of this position, authorised by s35 of the NT Anti-Discrimination Act and Division 4 (s30, ss1 & ss2a,c,g,e,& h) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984.
The total effective package includes: base salary, superannuation, leave loading, relocation assistance and salary packaging options. Annual progression within the salary scale is subject to satisfactory performance.
About the role
Under the direction of the Senior Management Team, you will provide high-quality legal advice and casework, whilst enabling, educating and empowering our clients to better engage in the legal system so that their rights are considered and respected.
The successful applicant will be required to move to Alice Springs for work. We have experience with relocation and can provide advice about living and working in Central Australia.
Some travel to Tennant Creek and remote locations may be required from time to time.
You will be responsible for the following:
Your key responsibility will be to provide legal advice, representation and referrals to clients attending CAWLS within our service delivery areas.

Ideal Applicant or Experience
What you will bring to the team
To thrive in this role, you will possess a Bachelor of Law and will have completed your Practical Legal Training. Moreover, you must be eligible to be admitted as a lawyer in the Northern Territory.
You will also possess or be willing to obtain the following certificates:
- Driver’s License
- NT Ochre Card
- Criminal History Check
Moreover, you will be able to work in a trauma-informed service delivery model, including working with a multi-disciplinary team while collaborating with other agencies to deliver client outcomes.
