Meet Jamee, an experienced marketer with over 10 years of experience in global brand management, marketing, public relations, product innovation, and development. She possesses a strong commercial acumen and creates relevant and strategic brand and marketing plans to increase brand advocacy, improve brand perception, and drive acquisition.

Let’s get to know more about her in our Q+A.

Tell us a little about yourself and your business?

I run a boutique eCommerce x Editorial site that stocks leading Australian beauty brands however I am now at a point where I would love to get back to some one-on-one brand strategy projects with business owners and brand founders that might need a little guidance with their overarching marketing strategies.

What inspired you to make the leap and go out on your own, and when did you first start working for yourself?

After a successful and busy career building one of Australia’s biggest beauty brands I decided to take the leap into freelancing and launching my own business after the arrival of my first daughter with the view to not only create a better work-life balance for myself but also to possibly build something my daughters may want to take over and run someday.

Tell us about your experience of working for yourself?

I started freelancing in January 2020 and haven’t looked back. It’s a great way of keeping myself busy with various projects as well as allow myself to juggle two young daughters when they need their mum (read. sick days at kindy etc.)

What’s your best piece of advice for someone wanting to make the leap?

I think my best advice would be to ensure that you structure your days prior to taking on new clients so you know how much time you can commit if you have various projects on the go at once. Also, research the programs and apps you would like to use to keep yourself and your clients on track. I work in my eCommerce business from a Monday – to Wednesday however allocate certain hours on a Thursday and Friday to freelance clients.

Best tips for winning new business?

Make a hit list of the companies you would like to work for and make contact. You never know when they will be looking to add someone just like you to their ranks. Although it might not be immediately, emails are a great way of filing CV’s for later.

What has been your favourite project to date?

At the end of 2021, we worked with three amazing brands on shooting some content and working through their re-brands, so I love seeing our assets come to life through their marketing and communications on-site and via social media.

What is a business win you’re currently celebrating?

I am working with a small brand that just secured an amazing new national retailer, so that’s always exciting for the smaller brands to get a little win like that.

What led you to join Freelancing Gems?

I have used the platform since it launched for recruiting and connecting as a business owner and given I have a little more time now that my daughters are a little older, it was a natural progression to list myself and my services on the site.

What is one word you would use to describe Freelancing Gems?

Efficient.

What’s next for your business?

I am currently in the process of working on getting a niche marketing studio up and running so watch this space.
